Copy of Rare Online Video: Rush performs “Anthem” live in New Jersey, 1976

Back in 2015 Rush’s drummer Neil Peart announced he was retiring from music for health reasons. At the time there was no official “band break-up” but in January of this year guitarist Alex Lifeson admitted the band was no more.

Back in 1976 vocalist Geddy Lee, Neil Peart and Alex Lifeson were just beginning to make themselves known to rock lovers outside their native Canada. The previous year they had released their second studio album, Fly By Night, and by '76 they were touring North America to promote and play tunes from that album.

This rare black and white video captures the trio on stage at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, New Jersey back in 1976. And the picture and audio quality are quite good. The footage highlights a rocking performance of their song “Anthem” found on that 1975 Fly By Night album.

You can catch music from Rush and other great rock & rollers from the 60s, 70s & 80s 24/7 on Dusty Discs Radio.
