Dusty Springfield Caught Sneaking Into Australia, 1967

In 1967 Dusty Springfield was only 28 years old but her name and music were loved world-wide. She had a musical variety TV show in the U.K., simply called Dusty, various top 20 songs on the charts and played in venues in various countries, including Australia.

This video shows Dusty arriving down under. The Australian press got wind of her early arrival and were on hand to meet her at the airport. Afterwards some reporters grilled her about everything from "sneaking" into the country, her seemingly annoyance at getting caught doing so, what she meant by being “numb” on arrival (was she on drugs perhaps??), her flowered necklace (was she a hippie??) and more. All things considered, she handled herself very well.
