How The Go-Gos Got Together

Any fan of 80s music is well aware of the music and influence of The Go-Gos, an L.A based, all female new wave band that got together in the early 1980s. They wrote their own songs, played their own instruments and their 1981 debut album Beauty and the Beat, is considered a cornerstone of the new wave movement. The band, consisting of Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wielding, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock and Kathy Valentine, broke up in 1985 but the story of how they got together is interesting in and of itself.

In this excerpt from VH1’s popular series ‘Behind The Music’, the formation of the band is explored with a bit of input from Belinda Carlisle herself. The audio has a few issues but if you use earbuds and turn it loud, the cracklings fade into the background. Enjoy!

You can listen to music from The Go-Gos and other artists of the 1980s on Dusty Discs Radio.
