Janis Joplin Live At Monterey Pop Festival, 1967
In June of 1967 Monterey, California played host to a 3 day concert event. Known as the Monterey International Pop Music Festival embodied the counterculture movement, heralded in the ‘Summer of Love’ and showcased some of the biggest performers of the late 1960s.
Janis Joplin was certainly one of those performers. Monterey was the first large-scale public performance for the San Francisco based rocker and her band Big Brother and the Holding Company. She was a huge hit and became a superstar overnight.
Here is a show-stopping performance from Janis and Big Brother of a Big Mama Thornton tune ‘Ball and Chain’. Dig it and Enjoy!
You can listen to music from Janis Joplin and other artists from the ‘60s daily on Dusty Discs Radio.
