Motown Girl Group The Velvelettes On Where The Action Is, 1965
One of the lesser known Motown Girl Groups was The Velvelettes, made up of college and high school girls. They signed with Motown in 1962 and began recording the following year, accompanied by a blind youngster named Stevie Wonder on harmonica.
In 1964 they hit the charts with ‘Needle In A Haystack’, hit the Motown-sponsored tours as a support act and made appearances on shows such Where The Action Is, one of the many music-based TV variety series that popped up during the 1960s.
Here is that performance of the hit song, all the way back in 1965. Enjoy!
You can listen to music from The Velvelettes, Little Stevie Wonder and other Motown artists from the 1960s on Dusty Discs Radio.
