Neil Diamond says ’Holly Holy' is a "Stream of Consciousness" song
By 1971 Neil Diamond was an established star on both sides of the pond with hits such as ‘Solitary Man’, ‘Shilo’, ‘Sweet Caroline’ and ‘Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon’ to name but a few. That year he when to Britain and performed a live telecast on BBC. And here’s a bit of that performance.
Neil asks the audience what they want to hear, attempts an English accent, says he can’t remember ‘Girl, You’ll Be A Woman Soon’ and finally launches into ‘Holly Holy’, a song he calls “stream of consciousness”. This bit shows the young, handsome singer/songwriter at the top of his game. Enjoy!
