Rare Music Video: Mungo Jerry 'In The Summertime’, 1970

In 1970 British band Mungo Jerry had a #1 chart topper with the catchy tune ’In The Summertime’. Written by lead singer Ray Dorset in only 10 minutes, the song celebrates the carefree days of summer and hit #1 in the U.K and Canada, and #3 in the U.S..

Back in the 70s music videos were a rarity so it was a surprise to discover a music video of ‘In The Summertime’ featuring the original Mungo Jerry line-up. While not much is known about the specifics of the shoot, a general consensus indicates the location is the London Hilton on Park Lane near the east side of Hyde Park. Here’s the video. Although primitive by today’s standards it is, none-the-less, a fun look at a great band and a great song. Check it out!
