Rare Online Video Interview: Burton Cummings gets personal, 1980
Updated: Jun 23, 2018
After the Guess Who split up Burton Cummings went on to have a wildly successful solo career. By 1980 he was rich and riding high from wildly successful sold-out concerts across North America. And he was embracing the hard-living life of a rock star.
Back in 1980 Burton Cummings was the biggest thing in Canadian music history. That same year, after playing to over 20,000 fans at Toronto’s CNE, he sat down with Jeanne Beker from The New Music, Canada’s weekly music and culture TV show. In this rare video Burton disses on everything from the burgeoning Canadian arts scene, rubbing shoulders with celebrities, the ‘high’ of performing, and his feeling on being a sex symbol.
You can listen to music from Burton Cummings and The Guess Who, along with other great Canadian music makers from the 60s, 70s & 80s, on Dusty Discs Radio.
